WEIKZA LAM

WEIKZA STATUE -SHWEDAGON PAGODA

WEIKZA - is one of the the 3 primary paths in Burmese Buddhism. The weikza path is an esoteric path of  powerful occult sciences requiring initiations by a Master (Guru), (such as alchemy, recitation of spells (mantras), practise of inns (yantras), meditation. The goal of this path is to become a weikza or weikza-do (from the Pali vijjadhara) which is a kind of semi-immortal magician or wonder-worker. The weikza vows to remain in this world for the benefit of the faithful until the advent of the future Maitreya Buddha at that time the weikza will attain Nibbana. To gather merits whilst on earth, the weikza usually acts as a teacher to human disciples, instructing them in alchemy, recitation of spells (mantras), practise of inns (yantras), meditation and runes. The weikza-lam shows striking similarities to the Tantric Buddhist Mahasiddha tradition of medieval Bengal.
